Well… That Escalated Quickly: How One MAFS Post Turned Into an Absolute Social Media Shit Show
I genuinely did not expect one TikTok about a MAFS Unleashed interview to result in DMs, accusations of bias, Rebecca pulling out receipts, a 22-minute phone call becoming evidence, Bec entering the chat, Gia’s partner Alan making comments about Bec and eventually me blocking Gia.
But here we are. And because there are now approximately 400 versions of what happened floating around, I thought I would explain exactly how I ended up in the middle of this absolute shit show.
Grab a coffee. Or wine.
Actually, maybe wine.
It All Started With Gia’s MAFS Unleashed Interview
Gia recently appeared on MAFS Unleashed with Ali and discussed, among other things, the breakdown of her friendship with Rebecca. One thing that caught my attention was Gia discussing Rebecca’s response following Gia’s pregnancy announcement.
The way Gia described it, she insinuated that Rebecca had congratulated her publicly on social media but had not actually reached out to her privately.
That was the part that made me pause. I found what Gia said interesting, so I did what I do and I made content about it.
My TikTok said:
“Gia’s interview with Ali has definitely raised some eyebrows after she made some pretty big allegations about Rebecca from MAFS 👀”
And my caption literally said:
“I need to hear Rebecca’s side of this one…”
That part is important!
I wasn’t presenting Gia’s version as gospel. I was saying: Okay, Gia has publicly suggested that Rebecca only congratulated her on social media and didn’t privately reach out. Now I want to hear Rebecca’s version. Apparently, however, my use of the word “allegations” caused World War III.
Gia commented:
“And what is the allegations? lol that she didn’t text me? Hardly allegations, seems like you’re trying to make something out of nothing here.”
And then she came into my DMs. Apparently I Was Being “One-Sided”
Gia messaged me:
“You’re still soooo one sided.”
She took issue with me saying she had made “big allegations” about Rebecca and then questioned why I hadn’t covered things Bec had apparently said about her during a separate podcast.
I pushed back.
I told her:
“I’m not so one sided. You seem to forget I’m my own person. I don’t work for you.”
And that is probably the biggest point I want to make about this entire situation.
I don’t work for any MAFS cast member.
I’m not Gia’s publicist.
I’m not Bec’s publicist.
I’m not Rebecca’s publicist.
I make commentary about reality television.
Sometimes I’ll agree with someone. Sometimes I’ll disagree with them. Sometimes I’ll defend someone I’ve previously criticised, and sometimes I’ll criticise someone I actually like.
Is literally
That is literally the point of commentary.
Gia responded:
“Not my point, my point is you seem to forget Bec’s podcast spoke about me negatively for most of it and I never once mentioned her but that’s not as interesting to report on?”
There was one fairly major problem with that argument.
I hadn’t even listened to that podcast.
I told Gia exactly that.
I also explained that I was delayed on my content because I had been dealing with a loss in my personal life. At that particular moment, keeping up with every single piece of MAFS drama was understandably not at the top of my priority list.
And despite the tone of the conversation, I still told Gia:
“I’m more than happy to chat on my TikTok live about all the things you have raised. I’ve never closed the door for you to share your side.”
So this idea that I somehow wasn’t allowing Gia to have a voice doesn’t sit right with me.
Then came Rebecca.
And this is where everything went completely off the rails. Probably because Rebecca finally stuck up for herself!
Rebecca Entered the Chat… With Receipts
Rebecca later appeared on a live and discussed the situation. And suddenly there was another rather significant piece of information:
Rebecca and Gia had apparently had a 22-minute phone conversation.
Well… NOW I was interested. Because the impression I had taken from Gia’s interview was that Rebecca had congratulated her publicly on social media but hadn’t privately reached out.
Rebecca’s version added considerably more context.
So naturally, I made another video. Because… hello?
This is MAFS commentary.
If one cast member publicly suggests another person only acknowledged her pregnancy on social media and didn’t privately reach out, and that person subsequently provides information showing there had actually been private contact, of course I’m going to talk about it.
That was exactly why my original caption said:
“I need to hear Rebecca’s side of this one.”
Well, we were about to hear it. And that’s when my comment section transformed into its own MAFS dinner party. 🫣
The 22-Minute Phone Call Became Exhibit A
Gia responded and clarified her position.
According to Gia, yes, she and Rebecca had spoken for approximately 22 minutes. However, Gia’s argument was that this happened eight days after her pregnancy announcement.
Gia wrote:
“Yes I spoke to her 8 DAYS after my announcement. She had 8 DAYS to text/congratulate and she only did it privately after we spoke on the phone.”
She then posted her call history.
There it was. A 22-minute incoming call from Rebecca.
So Gia’s position appeared to become more specific.
It wasn’t that Rebecca and Gia had never privately communicated. Gia’s issue was that Rebecca hadn’t privately congratulated her within the timeframe Gia expected, and that the conversation happened eight days after her announcement.
That was different from the impression I had initially taken from the interview, which was exactly why I wanted to hear Rebecca’s side in the first place.
Then Rebecca started posting her own screenshots.
At this point, we weren’t discussing a podcast anymore.
We were conducting a full-blown forensic telecommunications investigation.
Rebecca Had Her Own Receipts
Rebecca shared screenshots showing previous messages between herself and Gia. One message read:
“Hey Gia, I’m dealing with some family stuff atm will call you when I can.”
Another said:
“Thinking of you today x”
Rebecca annotated the screenshots with her own version of their friendship, arguing that she had continued showing up for Gia while dealing with things in her own life.
Gia maintained that there had been no congratulatory text during those eight days.
And honestly? At this point, I wasn’t particularly interested in deciding who deserved the Friend of the Year Award. Friendships are complicated. People have different expectations.
One person might think:
If you’re my friend, you should privately congratulate me immediately.
Another person might think:
I’m dealing with my own life problems, but I’m still checking in and we’ll speak when we can.
Both people can walk away from the same friendship feeling completely differently about what happened.
What interested me was how dramatically this had escalated from my original post saying:
I want to hear Rebecca’s side.
Well…We certainly heard it.
Then Bec Entered the Arena
Bec commented on my post:
“Some things never change.”
And Just when you thought we had enough people involved, Gia’s partner, Alan, entered the comments.
And this is where things became unnecessarily personal.
Bec had commented:
“Some things never change.”
Alan replied directly to Bec:
“yeh like your jaw swinging”
Bec immediately fired back:
“supplied by who 👀”
And people in the comment section started calling Alan out. One person told him:
“wow stooping sooo super low”
Another wrote:
“mate you’re about to have a child. Grow up, and stop with the nasty comments.”
Others also criticised him for getting involved.
Bec wrote, in part, that Gia had:
“gone to war with the ONLY person who stood by her this WHOLE time…” That is Bec’s interpretation and opinion of the situation, and I’m not presenting it as objective fact.
But one thing was very clear: Bec was not mincing her words. At this stage, my comment section had ceased belonging to me. I was merely providing the venue that I instantly regretted!
And honestly, that was the moment I looked at everything happening and thought: What the actual hell is happening?
Because whatever anyone thought about the original disagreement, we were now making comments about someone’s physical appearance. What did Bec’s jaw have to do with whether Rebecca congratulated Gia privately after her pregnancy announcement?
Absolutely nothing!!!
We were officially miles away from the original topic.
We had gone from:
Gia’s interview…
to my TikTok…
to Gia in my DMs…
to Rebecca discussing a 22-minute phone call…
to screenshots…
to call logs…
to Bec…
to Gia…
to Alan commenting about Bec’s jaw…
to Bec firing back…
to strangers arguing with Alan…
And somehow I was hosting a MAFS reunion nobody had asked for.
Then Came the Pregnancy Comment
This was the part that personally bothered me the most.
Eventually Gia wrote:
“You guys can all go live and have this convo alone I’m no longer responding. Fighting with a pregnant girl is gross lol. Hope everyone heals 💗”
And THAT got under my skin. Let me make something extremely clear. I do not support attacking a woman because she is pregnant. I don’t support piling onto somebody. And I know firsthand that pregnancy can be physically and emotionally exhausting. I’ve done it 3 times!!!
But my issue was the framing. Because from my perspective, Gia wasn’t some random pregnant woman sitting quietly at home who had suddenly been dragged into an argument she wanted nothing to do with.
Gia was participating in the disagreement that she started on MAFS Unleashed!
She had messaged me privately.
She had criticised my content.
She had responded publicly.
She had responded to Rebecca.
She had responded to Bec.
And her partner had entered the comment section and made a remark about Bec’s jaw.
So when pregnancy suddenly entered the conversation, I felt the narrative shifted from:
“A group of adults are arguing with each other.”
to: “Everyone is fighting with a pregnant girl.”
Those are not the same thing. And this particular argument hit a nerve with me for a very specific reason.
Because I Was recently Pregnant Too
When I was heavily pregnant, Gia had no problem having opinions about me. She had no problem criticising me. She had no problem confronting me privately in my DMs. And my pregnancy certainly didn’t prevent me from being held accountable for things I said or did.
So yes.
I got pissed off.
And I made a video about it.
My point was never:
“Gia is pregnant, therefore people should attack her.”
My point was the complete opposite.
Pregnancy shouldn’t be weaponised in either direction!!!
Being pregnant doesn’t mean people get to attack you.
But being pregnant also doesn’t mean you can voluntarily participate in an argument and then characterise everyone who responds as people “fighting with a pregnant girl”.
I don’t agree with that. Pregnant women are still adults.
We’re capable of having opinions. We’re capable of disagreeing. We’re capable of participating in arguments. And yes, we’re still capable of being wrong.
And Then Gia Was “Protecting Her Peace”
After the social media explosion, Gia made another TikTok about the fallout.
The caption?
“The dumbest sh*t ever but anyways moving on…”
In the comments, someone encouraged her to rest, focus on herself and her family and said the drama must be exhausting.
Gia responded:
“I know, not going over it or any other drama moving forward. It’s ridiculous. I only did this video because I’m sick of people speaking on my behalf. But I am done now they can talk all they want, protecting my peace 💗”
And genuinely?
I hope she does protect her peace. Because I’m protecting mine too.
The Part That Actually Disappointed Me
This is where the story becomes less about MAFS gossip and more about my own personal experience.
I had previously been critical of Gia.
Then I met her.
And she was nice to me. We had friendly interactions.
She responded warmly to me. When we met in person, I messaged her afterwards saying it was lovely meeting her. She responded:
“So good meeting you!”
And I genuinely thought: Maybe I got this woman wrong.
And you know what? I’m glad I gave her that opportunity. I don’t want to become the type of commentator who watches an edited television show, decides someone is terrible and then refuses to ever reconsider that opinion.
Reality television is edited.
People grow.
People change.
People deserve opportunities to show different sides of themselves.
I was completely open to the possibility that the Gia I watched on MAFS wasn’t necessarily the Gia I would experience in real life. Unfortunately, what happened after these posts left me feeling very differently.
Because the minute I posted something Gia didn’t like, the dynamic changed.
Suddenly I was:
“soooo one sided.”
Suddenly I was being questioned about why I hadn’t made content about something negative Bec supposedly said.
Suddenly I felt as though I was being asked to justify what I choose to cover on my own platform.
And that’s where I draw the line.
Being Friendly With Me Doesn’t Buy Positive Coverage
This whole situation has actually taught me something important. I can be friendly with reality stars. I can meet them. I can interview them. I can laugh with them. I can genuinely like them.
But none of that means they get editorial control over my page. My platform only works if my opinion remains my opinion.
If Gia does something I agree with, I’ll say so. If Bec does something I disagree with, I’ll say so. If Rebecca does something tomorrow that I think is wrong, I’ll say so. And if somebody I’ve previously criticised does something I think is brilliant, I’ll happily give them credit.
Nobody gets special treatment because they’ve been nice to me privately. And nobody gets to demand that I make negative content about somebody else simply because I’ve made content about them that they don’t like.
I don’t work for any of these people.
So… Was Television Gia Actually Gia?
Obviously, I don’t know Gia’s entire personality.
None of us do. I can only speak about my own personal interactions with her.
But I will say this.
I went into meeting Gia prepared to admit that perhaps television had given me the wrong impression. I gave her a chance. I was friendly with her.
And I was genuinely willing to reconsider my opinion.
After interacting with her personally, particularly once I posted something she didn’t like, I unfortunately recognised some of the same patterns that had bothered me while watching the show.
That is my personal experience and my opinion.
Other people may have completely different experiences with Gia. They’re entitled to them.
But based on mine? I don’t think my original instincts were completely wrong.
And What About Bec and Rebecca?
Again, I can only speak from my own interactions.
Rebecca has been absolutely lovely to me.
Bec has also been absolutely lovely to me and, frankly, I think she’s hilarious. That doesn’t mean I’ve signed a lifelong contract agreeing with everything either of them ever says.
If Bec does something tomorrow that I disagree with, I’ll say so. If Rebecca does something I think is wrong, I’ll say so.
That’s commentary.
And if I’m going to do this properly, that’s how it has to remain.
My Part in the Shit Show
I’m also not going to pretend I floated above this entire situation like some peaceful little angel.
I didn’t.
I responded.
I got pissed off.
I made another video.
I made sarcastic comments.
At one point someone asked:
“Why is Gia really beefing with Rebecca”
and I responded:
“Why does Gia beef with anyone 🤦🏽♀️”
Was I annoyed? Absolutely.
Could I have disengaged earlier? Also absolutely. I’m human.
But there’s a difference between acknowledging that I participated in an argument and accepting the idea that I somehow created everything that followed.
I commented on statements that had been made publicly.
The people involved then chose how they wanted to respond.
And boy… did they respond.
Why I Eventually Blocked Gia
After everything that happened, I blocked Gia.
Not because I’m frightened of hearing her side.
Quite the opposite. I had literally told her:
“I’ve never closed the door for you to share your side.”
I blocked her because I don’t want this dynamic continuing. I don’t want to make a video and then receive a DM questioning why I haven’t made another video about somebody else.
I don’t want to feel as though I need to balance an imaginary scoreboard every time I talk about a MAFS cast member.
And I’m certainly not interested in another argument where pregnancy becomes part of the defence and suddenly responding to somebody’s behaviour is characterised as attacking a pregnant woman.
The easiest solution is incredibly simple.
I won’t engage. I genuinely wish Gia a healthy pregnancy and the absolute best with her growing family.
But personally? I’m more than happy for our interactions to end here.
Final Thoughts
The funniest thing about this entire saga is still my original caption:
“I need to hear Rebecca’s side of this one…”
Well.
I heard Rebecca’s side.
Gia gave her side.
Bec gave her side.
Alan somehow gave us his ugly side.
And the comment section gave their opinion.
There were screenshots.
There were DMs.
There were call logs.
There was a 22-minute phone call.
There were pregnancy announcements.
There were comments about jaws.
There were TikToks responding to TikToks responding to comments responding to other TikToks.
At some point I stopped being a MAFS commentator and accidentally became a cast member in my own reunion episode.
But there is one thing I genuinely take away from all of this. I don’t regret giving someone another chance.
I’d rather be open-minded enough to reconsider my opinion of somebody and occasionally be disappointed than become so cynical that I never allow anyone to prove my first impression wrong.
I gave Gia that chance. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t change my original opinion in the way I had hoped it would. So to everyone who has been waiting patiently to tell me:
“We told you so.”
Fine. You told me so. 😂
Gia says she’s protecting her peace. I’m going to protect mine. I wish her well. But there is a whole new season of MAFS coming, which means approximately 97 new scandals are waiting around the corner for us to argue about.
So I’m drawing the line here.
Gia can stay with last season.
I’m ready for the next one. 🍿
